Erythema Ab Igne

Synonym. Ephelis ab igne.
This disease is a persistent erythema and pigmentation produced by long-continued exposure to excessive heat, without the incidence of a burn. Erythema ab igne is most common on the legs from habitually warming them in front of open fireplaces, radiators or heaters. Similar changes may be produced by the hot-water bag. The disease occurs chiefly in cooks, stokers, invalids, and others exposed over long periods to the direct action of moderate heat.
